A Pennsylvania-born doctor is speaking out after receiving a deportation notice from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)—despite being a U.S. citizen—raising concerns over errors in the Trump administration's immigration enforcement system.
Dr. Lisa Anderson, a Connecticut-based physician, was stunned to receive an email from DHS on April 11 instructing her to leave the country, according to HuffPost.
The notice appears to be part of a broader campaign under President Donald Trump's renewed deportation agenda, which utilizes the CBP One app to issue removal warnings to undocumented individuals. However, some U.S. citizens are being mistakenly swept up in the effort.
Anderson told NBC Connecticut that she was confused and alarmed by the email, which warned, "It is time for you to leave the United States." She had never applied through CBP One and had no known reason to be flagged.
Similarly, Nicole Micheroni, a Massachusetts-born immigration attorney, received an identical email, despite being a lifelong U.S. citizen. Micheroni posted the message to Bluesky, showing it threatened federal pursuit if she remained in the country past a seven-day deadline.
A senior DHS official later admitted to HuffPost that some citizens may have received the notices due to clerical mistakes—specifically when non-citizens list an incorrect or shared email address on their immigration applications. DHS says it is reviewing such incidents on a case-by-case basis, but no formal apology or correction has been issued to the affected individuals as of yet.
