Pennon appoints execs from The Restaurant Group and Post Holdings to board

The parent firm of South West Water and Bristol Water has announced two appointments to its board.

Exeter-based Pennon Group, which provides water to around 3.5 million people across the South West, said Loraine Woodhouse and Dorothy Burwell would join its senior leadership team as non-executive directors next month.

Ms Woodhouse is currently a non-executive director at fellow London-listed organisation The Restaurant Group, which owns national chains Frankie & Benny’s, Garfunkel’s and Wagamama, as well as The British Land Company, one of the largest property development and investment firms in the country.

Ms Burwell is a partner and board member at PR giant FGS Global, US food corp Post Holdings - which has cereal brands including Weetabix in its portfolio - and is a trustee of the charity the Consumers' Association.

Their arrival is part of a succession plan as senior independent director and audit chair Neil Cooper prepares to step down next year.

Pennon chair Gill Rider said: "On behalf of the board, I am delighted to welcome Loraine and Dorothy to Pennon. They are both highly accomplished individuals with broad experience to complement our board."

According to BoardEx statistics cited by the government, Pennon chief executive Susan Davy was one of only 10 female chief executives at FTSE-250 firms as of January 2022.

The Competitions and Markets Authority approved Pennon’s £425m takeover of Bristol Water in March.
