Pelicans’ Zion Williamson Out Two More Weeks With Hamstring Injury

As the Pelicans’ season continues to slip away, the team is now bracing for an even longer stretch without their marquee player.

New Orleans announced Wednesday that power forward Zion Williamson recently was re-evaluated for his right hamstring strain, and would miss at least another two weeks. The All-Star will get another examination on the injury at that time.

Williamson has not played since Jan. 2 against the 76ers. The Pelicans lost that game, dropping their record to 23-14. Since then, New Orleans has lost 20 of its past 28 games, including 10 in a row at one point, sliding down to the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference in the process.

Williamson missed all of last season with a foot injury and has appeared in only 29 games this season. He’s averaged 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, earning his second career All-Star nod.

The Pelicans are scheduled to play seven games over the next two weeks and have 17 total games left in the regular season. Based on the team’s timeline, the earliest Williamson could return is on March 23 at home against the Hornets.
