Lunar New Year is just around the corner, and Vespa wants you to know that it's ready to usher in the Year of the Snake with its latest limited-edition 946! True to Vespa's unrivaled commitment to style in the modern era, there's also a capsule clothing collection to match. Let's take a look.
First and foremost, there's the Vespa 946 Snake. How limited edition is this icy, wintry, and exclusive colorway, exactly? Piaggio plans to only make 888 of these 946 Snakes, with each one having its own number.
It's a snowy, icy snake design, designed to reflect the ethereal beauty of winter as channeled through an otherworldly snake-inspired theme that shifts hues with the light. In a move that just seems pretty sensible, both the saddle and the handgrips are crafted with a snakeskin pattern. There are other small snake details throughout the scooter, though it's been kept subtle and tasteful for the most part. Cobra Kai, this ain't.
To celebrate the Year of the Snake, Vespa is planning to tour a pop-up exhibition that will simultaneously show off both the 946 Snake and the Vespa Snake Capsule fashion collection. Items in this collection include a special jet helmet with an iridescent blue detail and a chrome snake; a long, white puffer coat, and an iridescent bomber jacket.
The Vespa 946 Snake follows in the footsteps of 2024's Vespa 946 Dragon, which celebrated the Year of the Dragon in a similar style-forward fashion. New year; new animal; new scooter. In 2025, Lunar New Year will be celebrated by multiple cultures across Asia and the diaspora on January 29, and will run through February 16, 2026.
As I write this, the Vespa Snake Capsule tour already kicked off its first stop in Rome, at Rinascente Tritone. Now it's currently at Galeries Lafayette Champs-Elysees in Paris through February 5, 2025. From there, it will visit locations in Milan, Vienna, Beijing, Istanbul, Bangkok, Hanoi, and Jakarta throughout the year.
If you're interested in the Vespa 946 Snake and/or the Vespa Snake Capsule collection, hit up the Vespa website to find out more and register interest. The 946 Snake is available for preorder as of January 8, 2025; items from the Snake Capsule collection range in price from US $160 for a Snake Knit Neckguard on up to US $1,590 for the Snake Bomber Jacket. Be aware that this collection is about lifestyle and fashion, and with the exception of the helmet, is not intended to be motorbike-specific safety gear.
