Pedro Pascal supports transgender rights with 'iconic' move at Thunderbolts premiere after UK gender ruling

Pedro Pascal has shared his fervent support for transgender rights at the European premiere of his new Marvel film, Thunderbolts, in London

The Last of Us actor , 50, wore the viral Protect The Dolls T-shirt on the red carpet at Cineworld Leicester Square - a week after the UK Supreme Court ruled that a woman is defined by biological sex, which excludes transgender women.

The ruling means transgender women with a gender recognition certificate can be excluded from single-sex spaces like toilets and changing rooms, a decision that has sparked global protests and prompted stars like Nicola Coughlan to condemn the “disgusting” move.

Pascal, whose sister Lux came out as transgender in 2021, publicly threw his weight behind the transgender community on the red carpet on Tuesday.

The Protect The Dolls top was created by American designer Conner Ives, with “dolls” signifying how the the LGBTQIA+ community refers to transgender women

Pascal, a vocal transgender rights advocate, previously wore the T-shirt during his 50th birthday celebrations on April 6.

The Narcos star’s fans praised his fashion statement on social media, with one writing on Reddit: “Pedro Pascal is an example of making the right person famous.

“He consistently speaks up and uses his platform - and he just seems so bloody lovely too.”

Another added: “Pedro Pascal is such an icon. I honestly love seeing him stand by his sister and the trans community. I feel like a lot of celebrities have zero back bone these days.

A third user commented: “It is amazing to see even a small show of support for us at this time.

“HUGE thank you to any cis person who would buy and wear this shirt, especially someone capable of sharing the message on a global stage.”

The proceeds from the T-shirt are donated to Trans Lifeline, an organization that supports transgender people, raising $250,000 so far.

Other stars who have worn the top include singer Troye Sivan and TikToker and actress Addison Rae.

Explaining why he made the garment, Ives told The New York Times: “It was very reactive.

“I knew I wanted to say something, given what we’ve observed in the last few months with the U.S. government and the current political regime.”

Pascal, appears in the superhero film Thunderbolts opposite stars like Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and David Harbour.

He is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Earlier this year, the Game Of Thrones star shared a post on Instagram that read: “A world without trans people has never existed and never will.”

He also pinned a comment on his page that read: “‘I can’t think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist.”

Meanwhile, US president Donald Trump’s recent policies have also hit the transgender community hard.

He recently signed an executive order titled “Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness” that restricts transgender people in military service.
