Pedestrian 'seriously' injured in collision with car on M56

A pedestrian has suffered “serious” injuries following a collision involving a car close on the M56 motorway close to the turnoff for the Creamfields music festival.

Cheshire Police said the incident was reported at around 1pm on a slip road on the westbound carriageway at junction 11 Preston Brook on the outskirts of Runcorn and Daresbury. A force spokeswoman said the casualty, a man in his 20s, suffered “non-life-threatening injuries”.

National Highways said two lanes are shut on the M56 westbound and the incident is expected to clear with normal conditions resuming by around 5pm. The route is already unusually busy due to the arrival of tens of thousands of revellers for the Creamfields dance music festival in Daresbury taking place over the next four days.

“The pedestrian, a man aged in his 20s, has sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“If attending Creamfields, drivers are asked to continue on to junction 12.

“Drivers are being urged to remain inside their vehicles if trapped in traffic.”
