Man charged after pedestrian killed in late-night hit-and-run in Hastings, on Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula

A man has been charged with murder after a fatal hit-and-run in Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula.

Police said a 23-year-old male pedestrian was hit by a white car at the intersection of McCallum Street and Cool Store Road in Hastings at about 11pm yesterday.

"The male pedestrian died at the scene," a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

"The driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene."

Police later arrested a 34-year-old man from Hastings who they allege had been driving the car.

The man will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court later this evening.

A crime scene was set up on the suburban street, where investigators remained into the morning.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are working to find out the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

Police are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
