Pedestrian fighting for life after being hit by truck in Galway city centre as gardai seal off scene

A man is in a critical condition after being struck by a truck in Galway city centre.

The collision involving a pedestrian and a truck happened on Prospect Hill at around 10am on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the pedestrian - a man aged in his 70s - was taken to University Hospital Galway where he is understood to be in a critical condition.

The area where the collision happened has been sealed off while a Garda forensic collision investigation takes place. Traffic diversions are in place.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

A spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Galway city this morning, Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

“The road at the site of the collision is currently closed pending examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and traffic diversions are in place.

“Gardai in Galway are appealing for witnesses to come forward and to those with camera footage (including dash-cam) to make it available to them.”
