Pedestrian, 66, suffers serious injuries after being hit by car on Sunderland bridge

Officers are appealing for information after a pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in Sunderland.

Northumbria Police received a report of a collision involving a man and a Ford Focus travelling northbound along Wearmouth Bridge, Sunderland shortly after 5.40pm on Saturday, February 12.

The 66-year-old pedestrian, who was walking with the assistance of a four-wheeled rollator, was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle, where he remains in a serious condition.

Police said the driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and is assisting officers.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Officers are appealing for information after a collision in Sunderland has left a pedestrian with serious injuries.

"Police are keen for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to get in touch.

"Officers are also keen for anyone with information about the injured man’s movements prior to the collision to come forward.

"Anyone with information can contact police online via the Tell us Something pages on the Northumbria Police website, contact officers on 101 quoting reference NP-20220212-0856 or by emailing 1092@northumbria.police.pnn.uk."
