Pedestrian, 60s, killed after being struck by jeep in south Dublin as gardai launch probe

A pedestrian in his 60s has died after he was struck by a jeep in south Dublin earlier this evening.

The man was hit at approximately 7:10pm on the Johnstown Road in Cabinteely.

His body has since been removed to the Mortuary in St. Vicent's University Hospital.

The man driving the jeep, who was in his 20s, did not require medical attention.

The road remains closed while a Garda Forensic Collision investigator conducts an examination of the scene. Local diversions are in place.

A spokesman said: "Gardai in Dun Laoghaire are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on Johnstown Road, Cabinteely, Dublin 18 this evening Tuesday 22nd November, 2022 at approximately 7.10p.m.

"The fatal collision involved a pedestrian and a jeep. The male pedestrian, aged in his 60s was fatally injured and his body has been removed to the Mortuary in St. Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin.

"The male driver of the jeep, aged in his 20s did not require medical attention.

"The road remains closed at this time as Garda Forensic Collision investigators are conducting their examination of the scene. Local diversions are in place.

"Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on Johnstown Road, Cabinteely, between 6.30p.m. and 7.15p.m. are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Dun Laoghaire Garda Station on 01 666 5400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
