A man has been taken to hospital after he was knocked over by a van in Whitley Bay.
Emergency crews attended the scene on the promenade in Whitley Bay shortly before 11.50am today (Friday) following a report that a van had collided with a pedestrian on the promenade. A 45-year-old male pedestrian was found at the scene and was taken to hospital for further treatment.
Eyewitnesses said that ambulance crews as well as an air ambulance were present at the scene alongside officers from the police. The incident caused some disruption in the promenade vicinity. Thankfully, nobody else was injured in the incident.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said, "We received a call to 999 at 11:48 to reports of a road traffic collision between a van and a pedestrian on Brook Street in Whitley Bay.
"We sent a clinical team leader, specialist paramedic, emergency ambulance crew and the Great North Air Ambulance and took a male patient taken to Cramlington hospital by road."
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 11.50am today (Friday), police received a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a van on the promenade in Whitley Bay.
“Emergency services attended the scene where a 45-year-old male pedestrian was taken to hospital to be checked over.
“The driver of the van remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries."
