Peculiar price hikes at Wetherspoons leave customers baffled

Bizarre price increases at Wetherspoons have got confused tongues wagging after one popular food vlogger highlighted the changes on the menu on a recent visit.

In a TikTok video that has gone viral, with over 726,000 views, @brodies_bites_ explained that she was left confused after ordering some food with friends after a night out in Glasgow. The price hikes were not particularly an issue, but the strange pricing structure struck a chord, reports Devon Live.

The ‘food obsessed’ vlogger noted that while the burgers were nice, but the onion rings were “absolutely cremated” – the quality of the food was not the main reason for the video. She noted that the prices had gone up, and said usually in the UK, prices are rounded up for a more equal number, but this was not the case here.

“Can someone please explain what on Earth has happened to Wetherspoons prices? She asked. “For the first time in ages we’ve been to spoons and normally it’s like £1.29 for coleslaw, £10.59 for a burger and a drink – what the hell is this?

“£4.03 for soup, £5.54 for nachos – like what? £5.27 for a panini and a drink – what is actually going on?

“It continues throughout the whole menu, such bizarre pricing and even the side dishes, it’s 81p for a side of chilli and £4.03 for chips, like I just don’t understand it.”

She had captioned her video: “Can anyone help my confusion? Was someone drunk on cheap pints when pricing the Wetherspoons menu??”

The reason why the pricing doesn’t round up to the nearest 5p, is because of the recent price increase, according to Wetherspoons. The business announced earlier this month it would be increasing prices across its menu by 7.5 per cent making it the second time in less than a year that prices have risen.

Some pints you can now expect to pay more for in the popular chain include Carlsberg which is up from £2.39 to £2.57, Stella from £3.35 to £3.60 and Leffe from £3.85 to £4.14.
