Peaky Blinders release date confirmed - here's all we know so far

A release date has been confirmed for the new season of hit BBC show Peaky Blinders - and it's much sooner than we thought!

A mural by artist Akse P19 of actor Cillian Murph as Peaky Blinders crime boss Tommy Shelby cropped up in the historic Deritend area of Birmingham to announce the latest season of the show.

The final series will be hitting our screens on February 27, 2022, in its sixth instalment since its initial beginnings back in September 2013.

So, what is new about the final season of the explosive drama? Here is all we know so far about the upcoming episodes of Peaky Blinders.

When can I watch the newest episode?

The first episode of the six-part season of Peaky Blinders will air on BBC One on February 27, at 9pm UK time.

Netflix airs the hit series outside the UK, and typically, the show begins on Netflix following the original UK run.

This will be the final season of the show, as previously confirmed by series director Anthony Byrne.

What is the plot for the final season and which characters return?

Main man Tommy Shelby is played by Cillian Murphy, who is seen in the trailer as the Shelby clan searches for a meaning to the end of the gangster troubles.

Also returning in the new season are Tom Hardy, Finn Cole, Anya Taylor-Joy, Paul Anderson and Sophier Rundle, while Stephen Graham also makes an appearance.

As Helen McCrory passed in April 2021, her character Aunt Polly will not return, although the fate of the fictional character was not disclosed in the trailer.

Speaking on the final season, writer and creater of Peaky Blinders Steven Knight said: "Peaky is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher.

"We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form."

What is next for the Peaky Blinders?

There have been talks of a potential movie surrounding the show, and possibly even a ballet score in the making.

Created and entirely written by Knight, the beloved series first aired on BBC Two nine years ago, winning the BAFTA for Best Drama in its fourth season and then making the move to BBC One in 2019 with audiences of over 7 million.

Executive producers are Caryn Mandabach, Steven Knight, Jamie Glazebrook, David Mason, Anthony Byrne and Cillian Murphy.
