Wrestling superstar and star of Peacemaker, Suicide Squad and the latest Fast & Furious movies, John Cena, will be headlining the first Comic Con Wales in Newport next month.
Taking place on Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7 at the ICC in Newport, Cena will top a list of film and TV pop culture icons. The 45-year-old star, who will appear on the Sunday, was recently seen in the HBO smash hit series, Peacemaker, a spin-off from the successful DC movie, The Suicide Squad. As well as an actor, Cena is a huge name in WWE, tying with Ric Flair for the most championship reigns in professional history. There are no promises of him doing the Peacemaker opening credits dance, or an appearance by Eagly, Peacemaker's pet eagle, but wrestling and DC fans won't mind, such is the coup of having such a big name in global entertainment.
The rest of the bill isn't too shabby, either, especially if you like Netflix's Cobra Kai, with Martin Kove, aka Kreese, from the series on the guest list too, as well as Peyton List, Gianni DeCenzo, Hannah Kepple, and Jesse Kove. Melissa Joan Hart will be returning to Wales to appear and Buffy the Vampire Slayer legend James Marsters is there too.
Guests will be able to get autographs signed by the guests in person and they can also get photos with them. CEO of Monopoly Events, which has organised the weekend, Andy Kleek, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Comic Con to the heart of Wales, and have put pen to paper on a three-year deal, with an option to extend.
“There has been a huge reaction to the event and it shows that people in Wales are passionate about having their own Comic Con and have been extremely supportive towards it. The Comic Con will be an annual event each August, and we are honoured to bring it to such a class facility as the ICC."
The ICC Newport will also exhibit sets and props from both TV and film, along with an array of trade stands, merchandise traders, comic artists and guests. Plus there will be gaming, anime, guest panels and celebrity meet and greet and there's a cosplay masquerades and a cosplay championship where the winner will receive a £500 cash prize.
