PBS Kids Renews Donkey Hodie For Third Season In 2025

Donkey Hodie

PBS Kids has announced the renewal of Donkey Hodie for a third season, set to premiere in 2025. The puppetry series, produced by Fred Rogers Productions and Spiffy Pictures, first aired in 2021 and draws inspiration from the whimsical and humorous elements of Fred Rogers' work. The show features reimagined characters from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, including Donkey Hodie, Purple Panda, Duck Duck, and Bob Dog, as they embark on adventures in the fantastical land of Someplace Else.

The upcoming season will consist of 15 new episodes, including two half-hour specials and additional digital content. Notably, a special crossover episode will bring together characters from Donkey Hodie and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood for the first time. The crossover will see Daniel Tiger and Dad Tiger transformed into puppets, transitioning from animation to live-action as they journey aboard Trolley to visit Donkey Hodie and her friends.

Ellen Doherty, Chief Creative Officer at Fred Rogers Productions, highlighted the shared values and legacy of empathy, resilience, and friendship that connect both series. The creators aim to continue fostering creativity and imagination in children, echoing the spirit of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

David Rudman, co-creator and executive producer of Donkey Hodie, expressed excitement for the upcoming season and the crossover episode, emphasizing the process of adapting beloved characters into the puppetry world while maintaining their essence from Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood.

Targeted at children aged 3-5, Donkey Hodie explores themes of resilience, problem-solving, and emotional well-being. The show aims to empower young viewers to dream big, overcome challenges, and cultivate confidence and belonging. PBS Kids' General Manager, Sara DeWitt, underscored the enduring impact of Fred Rogers' teachings on the network's programming, anticipating the audience's delight in the new season and the crossover event.

Donkey Hodie was created by Adam Rudman and David Rudman, with Ellen Doherty leading the development. The Rudman brothers and Doherty serve as executive producers, supported by Kristin DiQuollo and Caroline Bandolik in key production roles.
