Paz Errázuriz: The female photographer who defied the Pinochet regime

ENCORE! © FRANCE 24

On the week marking 50 years since the bloody military coup that brought Pinochet to power in Chile, we meet the woman who used her camera to defy the dictatorship. It was dangerous for anyone to capture life in Chile under Pinochet – let alone a woman determined to show society’s underbelly of outcasts and the marginalised. Paz Errazuriz is a multiple award-winning photographer, one of Chile’s most revered photographers, praised for her photographs denouncing the Pinochet years. Her work is being shown at a Paris exhibition called "Unfinished Stories" at Paris's Maison de l’Amérique Latine. She speaks to Eve Jackson about how she operated under the radar, turning photography into political resistance.
