Paw show as Boris Johnson has Dilyn the dog in front of car

Boris Johnson is already in the dog house over partygate - but now he could get another ruff ride over his dog.

The shamed ex-Prime Minister was spotted driving away from his £3.8m Oxfordshire mansion, after quitting as an MP over the Privileges Committee probe.

But he had dog Dilyn beside him sitting on someone’s knee on the front seat of his ageing Toyota Previa.

Rule 57 of the Highway Code, introduced last year, states: “When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly.

“A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars.”

A spokesperson for Mr Johnson declined to comment.

Dilyn was unruly during Mr Johnson's time as Prime Minister – reportedly having "expensive run-ins" with antique furniture.

Mr Johnson was often seen struggling to control his pooch while running with him in parks around Westminster – as he became distracted by ducks and people.

In 2021 it was revealed the Johnsons had neutered Dilyn to limit his "romantic urges" – often targeted at people’s legs.
