Paul Young announces Northumberland date on 2023 tour - here's how to get tickets

Eighties superstar Paul Young is set to Come Back and Stay in Northumberland for one night after the announcement he will be playing in Blyth next year.

The singer is promising a 'unique' show that will coincide with the publication of his autobiography and the 40th anniversary of his debut album No Parlez . He will be at the Blyth Phoenix Theatre in September 2023 and tickets will go on sale this Friday.

Paul, who broke into the big time in 1983, is best known for No Parlez , The quadruple platinum debut album spawned iconic hits like Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home), Love of the Common People, and a cover of Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart. No Parlez remained in the top 100 of the UK album chart for more than two years.

Two more number one albums, The Secret of Association and From Time to Time , followed, while Young is also known for being the voice which opened 1985 Band Aid hit 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' Earlier that year, he had performed at Live Aid.

As well as solo success, he occasionally tours with his Tex-Mex Americana band Los Pacaminos, though they won't be joining him in Northumberland. Nevertheless, Kyle Crook of Blyth's Phoenix Theatre is delighted to have such an enduring talent playing in the town. He said: "It's a very exciting thing, especially for quite a small theatre in the grand scheme of things.

"We're the smallest venue he's playing so we're expecting tickets are going to be like hot cakes, they're going to go very quick! They're going on sale well over a year in advance and it's a great thing for us to bring a new name who hasn't been to Blyth before, a bigger celebrity, as part of a more diverse programme at the theatre."

"It's very much an 'evening with' style concert so it's a chance for the audience to get up close and personal with Paul and find a little more out about his life and what he's done over the years."

The Phoenix Theatre has had several tribute acts playing its stage, however, Paul is not the only big name who is appearing in the flesh in the not too distant future. Tickets are also on sale for Status Quo's Francis Rossi next year and Joe McElderry this July.

Kyle continued: "We're trying to bring in a new audience who maybe don't want to come and see tributes all the time. It's a nice welcome change, especially for the audience who will remember Paul from his time and it's very exciting they'll be able to come and see him in the local area. And it breaks up what we offer so people don't get used to seeing the same thing every year."

Paul said: "I’m looking forward to touring next year as the fans go Behind The Lens."

Meet'n'greet packages are available and the show goes on sale this Friday May 27 at 10am online and at the box office. Full details are available here.
