Paul Scholes sarcastically mocks Erik ten Hag's five new rules for Man Utd players

Paul Scholes has questioned the new rules being implemented by new boss Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

As revealed by Mirror Football, the Dutchman is taking a hardline approach with his new side as he looks to ensure their is no repeat of last season's lowest-ever Premier League points tally.

Ten Hag has already laid out a number of new rules for his squad, which include a ban on alcohol during a match-week and also, somewhat surprisingly, a ban on personal chefs. He will also drop any player who is late to training or team meetings, while he has vowed to keep a close eye over his squad’s weight and is set to implement weekly BMI checks to make sure his players are in shape.

The final rule is arguably the most significant as all players will have to speak to Ten Hag about any grievances and his United squad are not allowed to talk to agents or other sources when they are unhappy. The former Ajax boss is looking to draw a line under past regimes and trying to implement his rules across as quickly as possible ahead of the new campaign.

Scholes, who won the Premier League 11 times with United, has delivered his, rather sarcastic, verdict.

He posted an Instagram story of the article with a shrugging emoji and the caption: "Not sure I would’ve coped without my personal chef and no agent to moan to."

Where will Manchester United finish next season? Let us know in the comments below!

United are expected to improve on last season's dismal showing under the former Ajax boss, after a season of struggle under, first, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and then Ralf Rangnick last term.

However, despite making clear his desire for additions, the club have been slow to add players to their squad with Tyrell Malacia their only signing so far. The Netherlands international made the switch to Old Trafford from Feyenoord for a fee set to rise to £15million on Tuesday afternoon.

Negotiations over a deal with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong continue, despite Joan Laporta's public claims that the Catalan giants do not want to sell the midfielder. Christian Eriksen is also set to sign on a free transfer, while. Ajax duo Antony and Lisandro Martinez are also in the club's crosshairs.

United travel to Bangkok for the first part of their pre-season tour on Friday afternoon, where they will firstly take on Liverpool on July 12. They will then face Melbourne Victory in Australia three days later, before taking on Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Atletico Madrid.
