Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has been proven wrong following comments he made earlier this season regarding Chelsea's defence.
The former Red Devils midfielder was previously discussing Chelsea's potential chances of mounting a title challenge back in October of last year, before arguing that the Blues are defensively the weakest out of the top four..
"I’m just not sure that you’ll score enough goals and that you’re defensively good enough," he said when discussing Chelsea's title hopes on The Overlap.
"I think [Antonio] Rudiger’s been really good but, other than that, you’ve got Thiago Silva who’s 36 or 37, Andreas Christensen’s a young player… I think in the middle of the pitch you’re alright. Jorginho and [N’Golo] Kante are really good players.
"I’m just not sure that you’ll score enough goals and that you’re defensively good enough.
"Well, Liverpool have got the best centre-backs, [Manchester] City have got two great ones, I think United have got two really good ones.
"I think Chelsea are probably the weakest out of the top four defensively."
As the business stage of the season has finally arrived, it's safe to say that Scholes has got this prediction incredibly wrong.
At this time of writing, Thomas Tuchel's men have conceded just 18 goals in total, whereas Manchester United have let in a whopping 38 goals so far in the league this season.
In fact, the Red Devils have conceded more goals than Chelsea and Manchester City combined (36).
Finding the correct balance between attack and defence has been a significant issue for Ralf Rangnick since arriving at Old Trafford, with a disconnect between the backline and midfield clearly apparent.
Last week's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City in the derby is a great example to illustrate this, particularly when diving into the second half performance.
With Tottenham next up for Manchester United this Saturday, the club's defensive record could get even worse.
