Paul Scholes praises two Arsenal players he 'really likes' after impressive start to season

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has been impressed with two Arsenal stars this season. The Gunners have won five of their six Premier League games so far this season, with their only defeat coming against Scholes' old club at Old Trafford last weekend.

There have been star performers all over the pitch for Arsenal, including the returning William Saliba at the back and August Premier League player of the month nominee Martin Odegaard in midfield. However, Brazilian duo Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus have particularly caught the 47-year-old's eye.

Since signing from Manchester City, Jesus has been a revelation, directly contributing to six goals in as many games.

Martinelli has scored three goals in six appearances, and he was cruelly denied a fourth goal of the season against United - seeing a strike ruled out due to VAR controversy after Odegaard was adjudged to have fouled Christian Eriksen in the build-up.

"He's great. I really like him," Scholes told Premier League Productions when asked about Martinelli.

"He's got that pace, but he's also got a goal in him, which is probably the most important thing for that position.

"Martinelli and Jesus have both been a breath of fresh air at Arsenal.

"Jesus coming in has probably taken a little bit of pressure off him [Martinelli] as well because he's only a young lad, and Jesus is expected to score a lot of goals.

'With Jesus coming in, that seems to have taken the pressure off of Martinelli, and he is flourishing right now."
