Paul Scholes praises four Manchester United players after Southampton victory

Paul Scholes praised Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes for their involvement in Manchester United's winning goal against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Fernandes scored the only goal of the game against the Saints in the 55th minute, with the away side able to see out the remainder of the tie despite late pressure from Southampton.

Some good build-up play from United down the right hand side led to Dalot delivering the ball into the area where Fernandes was waiting to provide a lovely cushioned finish past the Saints shot-stopper Gavin Bazunu.

It was a much-needed goal for Erik ten Hag's side, who had played out a relatively even first 45 minutes with the home team.

Speaking after the match, United legend Scholes praised Dalot for his inviting cross, and Fernandes for his clever finish.

"The ball from Dalot, he puts a good cross in, the movement all round. It’s the pull-back, you see them try and smash it across goal, he’s got his head up and seen the cutback and put a lot of pace on it," Scholes said.

"That’s helped Bruno a little bit because he has to just put it on target but it’s a great finish, got to give the lad credit.

Prior to this, he stated: "I think winning the game, defensively they were good, they were sound. Martinez and the left-back, we were worried before the game but they did well.

"Martinez looks a very aggressive player, which he’ll need to be, to get through the game after such a bad run away, after Monday night it was important as well to back that up with a win and they managed to do that."

United travel to Leicester City on Thursday night for their next Premier League match, hoping to make it three wins in a row.
