Paul Scholes on crutches after admitting his knee is 'f*****' following Soccer Aid injury

Paul Scholes has revealed his knee is "f*****" after suffering an injury while playing in Soccer Aid at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.

Scholes was part of the England side that lost 4-2 to the World XI, with the Manchester United icon scoring a 20-yard screamer. The World XI have now won the charity event, which has raised more than £14million for UNICEF this year, five times on the bounce.

Scholes, 48, was forced to come off at Old Trafford after colliding with his former United team-mate Nani, 36. The ex-England international was pictured leaving his home in Cheshire on crutches and it may be some time before we see him back on the pitch.

The photo of Scholes on crutches was shared by his daughter, Alicia, on Instagram. He took to his own account to add: "Knee's f*****, but couldn't give two s****. Nothing will ever give me a better feeling that playing in front of a full house at Old Trafford and scoring a goal. Great couple of days with some very funny people."

Scholes is regarded as one of Man Utd's greatest ever players, making more than 700 appearances for the club during a 19-year professional career. He won 25 trophies during that time, including 11 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.

Scholes has played in Soccer Aid before, an event which was started Robbie Williams in 2006 and has since raised a fortune for UNICEF. The charity match was played every two years until 2018, when it became an annual event.

England then won back-to-back titles to take make it 5-2 overall before the World XI won five games on the bounce. Old Trafford has hosted eight of the 12 Soccer Aid events, with Wembley, Stamford Bridge, the Etihad and the London Stadium also used.

The World XI opened the scoring on Sunday evening when Olympic legend Usain Bolt got in behind the defence and slotted the ball past David James. England equalised just after half-time when Sex Education actor Asa Butterfield's sliced effort found the net.

Then came Scholes' drive into the bottom corner, with the Man Utd hero rolling back the years in front of his adoring fans. Tottenham legend Robbie Keane turned the game on its head by scoring a brace, including a lovely strike into the top corner.

The game was put to bed in the 80th minute when Love Island winner Kem Cetinay broke through the defence and got the better of goalkeeper Paddy McGuinness. Cetinay has now scored a record five goals in Soccer Aid, one more than Clarence Seedorf.
