Paul Scholes names two Erik ten Hag signings who have become Manchester United leaders

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez have become leaders for the club since being signed by Erik ten Hag.

Martinez was one of Ten Hag's first signings when he arrived from Ajax in the summer. Some pundits questioned whether the Argentina international would be able to adapt to the Premier League due to his height.

However, the centre-back proved many wrong as he overcame a shaky start to become a starter for the Reds. Meanwhile, Casemiro was deemed a standout signing when he joined from Real Madrid.

The 31-year-old soon became integral to the United midfield, anchoring the team and becoming a key asset. Speaking to the club's official website, Scholes believes both men have been crucial to the Reds' resurgence this season.

"I think for two or three years at least, this team’s been accused of lacking leaders," he explained. "I think there's a few leaders in the team.

"When you think of the experience of Casemiro, Martinez is a great character and got personality and his experience. And I think that's all changed around a little bit.

"They've got a belief in them as well. I don't think, you know, they don't dominate games as much as they probably like to, but they’ve found a way to win and that's the most important thing."

Scholes was also complimentary of Ten Hag and his approach to management, adding: "He's just no-nonsense. I think, in the past, the players at this club have probably played the way they want to rather than the way the manager wants to. I think he’s totally turned that around.

"The players do what their manager wants, they stick to what he wants off the pitch, on the pitch, and I think everyone's seeing the benefits from that." Scholes was speaking to the club ahead of Sunday's Soccer Aid match at Old Trafford and we'll bring you live updates of the match here at MEN Sport.
