Manchester United icons Paul Scholes and Sir Alex Ferguson appear to have differing views on the club's pursuit of Tottenham talisman Harry Kane.
The Red Devils have long been linked with a move for the England international and Ferguson has previously confessed that if he could have managed one current Premier League star, it would have been three-time Golden Boot winner Kane. With that in mind, the Scotsman also told current boss Erik ten Hag which area of the pitch he should strengthen earlier this season.
Speaking after United's Carabao Cup final triumph over Newcastle in February, Ferguson analysed Marcus Rashford and suggested the burden of putting the ball in the back of the net should not fall entirely on the 25-year-old's shoulders.
"I don't think he's [Rashford] a striker," Ferguson told Sky Sports. "He operates away from the left-hand side and has been fantastic.
"His finishing is always good, always keeps his shots down – which is really important for a striker – and is in a great vein of form. Unfortunately for us, he's the main source of goals – we could do with an extra one, but he's doing it."
While Scholes agreed with his former boss in that putting the ball in the back of the net was an issue, he doesn't seem as entirely convinced that Kane is the answer to United's problems.

"I think Harry is very happy where he is. If he was going to move it would have been to Man City a couple of years ago," Scholes explained to BT Sport.
"He would be fantastic, 25 goals guaranteed, but it's very difficult for him to move at 30 years of age. It's a risk as well for Man United, if you put all your eggs in that Harry Kane basket and all of a sudden Daniel Levy is messing you about, you might end up with no one.
"If you get him early, brilliant, but I just think he's very happy at Tottenham doing what he's doing."
Scholes also later went on to once again echo a similar sentiment to Ferguson by suggesting those around Rashford should also start chipping in with goals.
He called on the likes of Jadon Sancho and marquee summer signing Antony to improve their own record in front of goal, while also reminding Ten Hag it is his responsibility to get a tune out of his wide players as well.
For now, Ten Hag's focus is likely to remain on a strong end to the season, but he'll have the pursuit of Kane in the back of his mind no doubt.
With Bayern Munich's reluctance to enter a bidding war for the star striker, United could have a clear run at it when it comes to landing Kane's signature.
