Paul Scholes praised Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag for the way in which he dealt with the situation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's refusal to step off the bench in last week's 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
The 37-year-old, who has scored just two goals so far this season, refused to step off the bench in the latter stages of last Wednesday evening's clash with Antonio Conte's side, instead choosing to head back to the dressing room and then leave the stadium before the match had finished. He was disciplined by Ten Hag as a result of his actions, being forced to train on his own and then being axed from the squad for Saturday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
However, Ronaldo, following talks with Ten Hag, was reintegrated into the first-team squad on Tuesday, being allowed to train with the main group. His performances on the training ground have done enough to earn him a recall to the starting line-up for Thursday night's Europa League clash with Sheriff Tiraspol.

Having returned to the side, it is clear that United and Ten Hag are keen to move on from the situation and put it to bed. And for former midfield ace Scholes, the United manager dealt with the whole scenario well.
"It's been dealt with and I think the manager has dealt with it really well, answering so many questions about it," Scholes told BT Sport. "I think it's done now and Cristiano has obviously gone to see him and they've had a good meeting about it.
"The right thing has happened; he is available to play, he's trained with them this week and it is out of the way. It is old news and now let them carry on with the game."
