Paul Scholes admits he'd 'hate' to see Scott McTominay join Newcastle United from Manchester United

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has claimed he'd 'hate' to see Scott McTominay leave his former side after the midfielder was linked with a move to Newcastle United this week.

The Scottish international fired two braces past Cyprus and Spain over the international break to get Scotland's EURO 2024 qualification campaign off to the best possible start.

And his impressive displays for Erik ten Hag's side this season has reportedly caught the attention of Eddie Howe and the Magpies - something Scholes is not happy about.

"He’s done great and will come back with loads of confidence. He’s a really talented player, he’s a really good player," Scholes said on the Webby and O'Neill YouTube channel.

"He’s got on with his job and he’s a top class player Scott. It’s a big few weeks for Scott with rumours about him leaving the club. A lot of rumours about Newcastle.

"I hate to see homegrown talent leaving the club to be honest with you but sometimes it has to happen. If he can come into this team and show that Casemiro isn’t missed, hopefully he will still be with us next year."
