Paul Rudd stuns Wrexham fans as he joins in with promotion celebrations

Paul Rudd was in attendance as Wrexham chased promotion in their crucial clash against Boreham Wood on Saturday.

Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were joined in Wrexham by another A-Lister in Rudd with the star seen enjoying a pint with local fans before the game on Saturday night. He was at the Racecourse as Wrexham clinched a 3-1 win and secured promotion.

The 54-year-old was spotted at a local pub in the Welsh town drinking beer and singing songs with Wrexham fans. Rudd is the latest star to join Reynolds and McElhenney to catch a game, with Will Ferrell spotted enjoying a pint with fans on his first visit to the team back in February.

Wrexham are on the edge of securing automatic promotion as they sit atop the National League standings, just one point clear of Notts County with a game in hand. The Red Dragons knew a win over Boreham Wood would secure the title and a place in the Football League - but things didn't go to plan.

Lee Ndlovu opened the scoring for the visitors before Elliot Lee equalised, and then - with Rudd and co. cheering on from the stands - star striker Paul Mullin scored twice in the second half to give the Red Dragons a 3-1 win. The victory means Wrexham return to the Football League for the first time since their 2008 relegation.

Back in November 2020, Deadpool star Reynolds teamed with McElhenney - famed for creating and starring in ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ - to purchase Wrexham for £2.25m. The duo have become symbols of Welsh football around the world with the publicity and exposure their platforms have bought to the club and the area, largely though the popular Disney+ documentary titled ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ - which was a hit in the United States, where the club will embark on a preseason tour this summer.

The documentary has attracted mainstream attention with celebrities joining millions around the world in following the Welsh club. Wrexham will now compete in League 2 next season - and the players are set to enjoy a special reward.

According to the Daily Mail, Reynolds and McElhenney are set to reward the squad with a £200,000 bonus for their epic efforts in securing promotion. After their takeover, the duo offered a bonus to their players should they attain promotion back to the football pyramid - with the figure negotiated by club captain Ben Tozer.
