Paul Robinson calls for Leeds United fans to support Victor Orta ahead of summer transfer window

The summer transfer window will be an extremely interesting one for Leeds United. It could be a seismic few months at Elland Road with potential high-profile outgoings as well as the hope for several useful incomings.

The futures of both Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips have already started to dominate the agenda heading into the post-season with potential arrivals being put on the backburner for now. Another pursuit of Brenden Aaronson is expected but competition for his signature might see the recruitment team look for alternatives elsewhere around Europe.

The man in charge of that recruitment, Victor Orta, has been criticised recently by Leeds supporters following the signings of players like Junior Firpo who are yet to make good on the money that was invested to sign them. However, former Whites goalkeeper Paul Robinson has told fans to trust the Spaniard.

“I think Victor has to be trusted with his previous recruitment record. He’s very, very good,” the former Leeds goalkeeper told MOT Leeds News.

“He’s got a great eye for a player and the due diligence he does on players is excellent. And his relationship with the manager is important. There are going to be players the manager will want out of the door, as well as players he’s going to want to bring in.”

Robinson claimed that established players should be the target for Leeds in the summer to ensure they are able to improve in the Premier League next season. However, that is a policy that Orta continues to deviate away from after making the point that the club is not wealthy enough to be able to bring in players with proven records in the major leagues.

“It’s very difficult to comment on the club’s transfer policy until you understand who they want to leave the club and what positions they’ll look at,” said Robinson. “If they bring two or three established players in and don’t lose any, that’ll be an excellent window for them.

“If they got £90million for Raphinha and they brought in three players at £30million, that would be a great window. [You can get] top-class players at that price bracket.”
