Paul Pogba's private PSG admission comes to light ahead of summer transfer decision

Paul Pogba has privately admitted that he would be open to joining Paris Saint-Germain this summer as his Manchester United career looks to be over.

The 28-year-old's contract with the Red Devils expires in June and interim manager Ralf Rangnick has all but confirmed that Pogba will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season for pastures new.

Now, ex- Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has revealed that the midfielder discussed his hotly-debated future with him and mulled over a move to the French capital, having also flirted with a switch to 'dream club' Real Madrid.

"I know Paul, I played with him at Juventus, and it's amazing what he can do with the ball," Anelka told RMC Sport, via Metro.

"Unfortunately, when he arrives in Manchester, they are not a big team. They are a team that has to rebuild themselves, they are looking for its game plan, they are looking for a coach.

"It's been very difficult for him since he came back. He's been criticised a lot. It's not the best club where he can have fun and show his talent.

"I think PSG would be great for him. Some say it wouldn't be good for Paris, because he's supposedly often injured. But I think his injuries are due to his life in Manchester, because he's not psychologically well."

The Frenchman was then quizzed on whether a move to Paris is on the cards, to which he replied: "I discussed this six months ago with him and he would not be against coming to PSG.

"If he comes, we will forget all the injuries and we will see that he is a top player."

While Pogba's future is uncertain, he remains a key player for Rangnick as United approach a run of season-defining fixtures, with Champions League qualification hanging in the balance.

The France international has featured in all six of the Red Devils' matches since the winter break, having been ruled out through injury for the three months prior.

But ahead of Pogba's return to action, Rangnick opened up on his future at the club and admitted his motivation could well be to earn a new deal elsewhere.

"For me it's not a question if a player has an expiring contract, the question is how much does he still want to be a part of this group, how much does he still feel emotionally and physically on board," the United boss explained.

"As long as this is the case, why shouldn't Paul Pogba now after two and half months of injury, fully fit again now and he also wants to show up, he wants to show the fans of Manchester United, the board, the whole world what kind of player he can be and even if it's only to show enough for a new contract elsewhere, he will be highly motivated to do that and why should I then not play him?"

"By the way, my contract as a manager is also expiring in the summer," Rangnick added.

"For us we have the same goal. We have the same ambition to be as successful as we can possibly be in the next three or four months.

"But as I said, there is a difference of how players deal with their current situation.

"How do they handle that? If they handle that in a professional way, an ambitious way, of course I will play players although they have a contract expiring in the summer."
