Paul Pogba responds to Cristiano Ronaldo 'problem' accusation after Manchester United win

Paul Pogba has insisted Cristiano Ronaldo 'has never been a problem' at Manchester United this season.

United have endured a tumultuous campaign and Ralf Rangnick's players have received heavy criticism. Ronaldo has not been exempt to that intense scrutiny and some have suggested he no longer has what it takes to operate at an elite level.

There have also been reports of dressing room noise involving Ronaldo and Harry Maguire - the latter denied such accusations on social media - but the 37-year-old did his talking on the pitch on Saturday night. Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Tottenham at Old Trafford, inspiring his side to secure the three points in what could prove to be a huge result by the end of the season.

Pogba reflected on the performance after the game and lavished the praise on Ronaldo for his goals.

"It was a beautiful game and a beautiful reaction from us," Pogba told BBC Sport.

"We hurt them at the right times and Ronaldo did what he does best. He has never been a problem. You have the best striker in history in our team, he cannot be a problem. Today the performance from him and all the team was very brilliant.

“Ronaldo was brilliant. I think that’s all we needed – a reaction. We scored beautiful goals. Even when we conceded a goal, we came back and scored again. The mentality was there again today.

“Everybody knows Cristiano – there’s no need to talk about him. That’s what he does. He didn’t play in the last game, but he comes back and scores three goals. Everybody’s happy."
