Paul Pogba 'in talks' with PSG as Manchester United's 'bid rejected' for £58.5m Real Madrid star

Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories that you might have missed.

While United haven't been active in the January transfer window yet, that still hasn't stopped the speculation around any potential moves, as Paul Pogba looks set to leave the club. He's reportedly in talks to sign for PSG.

If Pogba does leave United, a replacement will be needed, and reports from Spain suggest that United have had a bid rejected from Real Madrid.

Seeing as Ralf Rangnick wants to implement control at United, he can do that by keeping clean sheets, and it looks like he's targeting a Wolves defender to help that cause.

Pogba in PSG talks

Paul Pogba's future will likely be elsewhere after Ralf Rangnick confirmed he would be playing the Frenchman, even if he was trying to eye up a contract at another club.

The 28-year-old is now free to talk to whoever he wants as his deal will be up at the end of the season. It remains to be seen where he's going to go.

However, ESPN claims that Pogba is in talks with PSG to return to France. They've been widely tipped as the ideal destination should he leave Old Trafford. He could even have the opportunity to play under his idol, Zinedine Zidane if he also moves to the French capital in the summer.

The report adds that PSG wants to sign Pogba to persuade Kylian Mbappe to sign a new deal at the club.

Opinion: I think it's time for Paul Pogba to leave United as it just feels like a relationship where the damage has already been done. He's a good player on his day, but we haven't seen it enough in a red shirt. It's best for all parties to move on, and PSG seems like a good fit for him.

United bid rejected for Real Madrid star

If Paul Pogba leaves Old Trafford, Ralf Rangnick will be seeking a replacement, either for himself or the new manager at the end of the season. But according to reports in Spain, it looks like United are already making moves.

According to El Nacional, Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, has been tempted by a 'major offer' from United for 23-year-old Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde.

The report says that United have had a €60m bid rejected by Madrid because manager Carlo Ancelotti sees him as an integral member of his plans.

United apparently want Valverde (rated £58.5m by Transfermarkt.com) to replace Pogba. While the Madrid president was said to be in favour of the transfer, he 'finally backed down after listening to the sports management.'

Opinion: I think Valverde is a super talent and would be a great long-term replacement for Pogba, but I don't believe the story. I highly doubt United would've made a bid of this amount in the January transfer window when they're being pretty tight until the summer.

Interest in Wolves defender from Rangnick

As interim boss Ralf Rangnick will be taking up a two-year consultancy role once his stint as coach ends in May, there has been talk that he's been recommending certain players to United. The latest reports have indicated he's targeting a defender from Wolves.

90min.com have said that Rangnick is plotting a defensive overhaul, wanting to be rid of Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire.

But, the more interesting aspect of the report is the one defensive player Rangnick is interested in signing, centre-back Max Kilman.

Rangnick has reportedly recommended Kilman to the board, with the defender identified as a potential replacement and upgrade on club captain Maguire.

Opinion: I would love Kilman at United because I rate him highly and think he's been exceptional for Wolves this season, but I think there need to be more reports linking us with a move. I also don't think Maguire will leave United.
