Paul Pogba could hold key to Chelsea making Juventus £35m January transfer swoop

Juventus star Paul Pogba may hold the key to Chelsea completing a double transfer swoop for two of his teammates. Todd Boehly is looking to back Graham Potter in his first transfer window as manager after the Blues spent close to £300million in the summer.

Chelsea are close to completing the signings of David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos as Boehly continues to identify young talents that can make an impact at Stamford Bridge. Fofana is said to have completed a medical ahead of his £10.5million move whilst Andrey Santos is on the verge of securing a £17.5million transfer to the Blues.

Midfield is one area that is in need of reinforcing with the likes of N'Golo Kante and Jorginho facing uncertain futures at Chelsea. A number of players including Enzo Fernandez, Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice have all been linked with a switch to the Blues, but they would all cost in excess of £100million.

Chelsea could look to resolve their midfield issues by completing a double swoop for Juventus duo Adrien Rabiot and Weston McKennie. Rabiot and McKennie enjoyed strong World Cup campaigns with their respective nations, with the Blues said to be interested in securing deals for both players.

According to Calciomercato, Juve will block Rabiot from departing the club in the January transfer window if fellow midfielder Paul Pogba suffers a setback in his recovery from a knee injury. Pogba missed out on featuring for France at the World Cup due to his injury and is on course to return to action in the new year.

Rabiot was close to completing a switch to Manchester United in the summer but talks broke down over personal terms. The French midfielder is thought to still be keen on completing a move to the Premier League but his dream may be blocked until the end of the season when he is set to become a free agent.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund have all been approached by Juve to gauge interest in McKennie, according to Rob Pratley. The Old Lady would like at least £25million for the American midfielder and would accept a sale, or loan with an obligation.

Chelsea are said to be unwilling to sanction a move for McKennie unless Juventus lower their asking price, whilst Rabiot could be available for a fee in the region of £10million due to him having just six months left on his deal. Boehly has a decision to make as to whether to push for a move for both players or wait on Kante to return from injury and get by until the end of the season.
