The Boston Celtics are off to an impressive 5-0 start this season, and two Hall of Fame Celtics legends, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, have taken notice of the standout defensive play by the team’s backcourt, Derrick White and Jrue Holiday, on a recent episode of the Showtime Basketball “KG Certified” podcast (h/t to Boston Dot Com’s Connor Roche).
“When they’re on the court, they play every possession,” said Pierce. “They’re going for offensive rebounds, they’re (defending), they’re cutting, they’re setting screens, and they’re going for steals. They never stop playing the game — your star might go over here and wait on the ball or don’t go for the offensive rebounds. They play every part of the game you can play.”
Garnett agreed that the pair looks “scrappy” in how they approach the game for Boston.

“It looks hella scrappy in person,” The Truth answered back. “It’s like, damn, next thing you know Holiday is coming up with an offensive rebound or White comes up with a big offensive rebound, or (they) hit a big 3 or came up with a big stop at the end. It looked crazy.”
The fame of the Stock Exchange — as White’s father Richard has dubbed Derrick and Jrue for their propensity to collect steals and blocks — grows daily, with even the game’s greats taking note.
