Paul Mescal paid tribute to his mother after receiving the gong for Best Actor at this year's Olivier Awards.
The 'Normal People' star received the accolade at the London based ceremony, which honours theatrical performances. Paul narrowly beat actors such as David Tennant and Tom Hollander for the award, based off his performance in the West End production 'A Streetcar Named Desire.'
Paul was visibly emotional as he took to the stage following the announcement. He took the opportunity to honour his mother while accepting his award.

He said: "I want to thank my parents for never saying no. I want to thank my dad and my mum, who I hope gets better soon."
Paul's mother Dearbhla is currently undergoing chemotherapy as she battles cancer. The mum of two previously took to Instagram to give people an update on her health, where she admitted to taking each day as it comes.
Paul also used his platform at tonight's awards to thank his former drama school in Dublin. He gave a shout out to the Lir Academy, where he had studied prior to his breakout role in 'Normal People.'
He narrowly missed out on receiving the Best Actor Award at this year's Oscars ceremony. Paul's role in coming of age drama 'Aftersun' was also recognised at this year's BAFTA awards.
