Paul Mescal attempted to explain Gaelic Football to Americans after he appeared on Late Night with Seth Myers.
Mescal is doing the rounds promoting his latest movie Aftersun, with the film being met with rave reviews.
And the Kildare man was asked about Gaelic Football with Mescal having a successful career before hanging up the boots to pursue acting.
And trying to describe the sport, Mescal said it was 'chaos'.
He said: "Chaos, pure chaos. It's basically just a mix between rugby and soccer but it's just brutal. You represent your parish of where you come from and it's non-professional. It's very spirited."
And Mescal told the story of how he broke his jaw playing GAA while in acting school and had to tell teachers he was mugged.
He said: "I broke my nose and my jaw, I broke my jaw two days before starting my final year in drama school. So I was like 'I'm probably going to give it a break' for the last year'.
"I found out that they don't really go hand in hand. You can't really act with a broken jaw.
"They say you're not allowed to play any sport because it's bad for like your body and stuff. And I was like 'I'll be fine', go in and face-to-face with my acting teacher, and they're like 'what's wrong', well this is so weird 'I got mugged at work.'
"A nightmare so I spent four week in rehearsals, just kind of like rehearsing."
Mescal captained Kildare's minor team and has been snapped in the past playing against top players such as Cormac Costello and Con O'Callaghan but went on the pursue his acting dreams.
