Paul Merson makes two big Nottingham Forest predictions ahead of facing Brentford

Paul Merson is not expecting Nottingham Forest to build on their statement win over Brighton at the weekend.

The City Ground helped roar Steve Cooper ’s side on to a huge 3-1 victory over Brighton on Wednesday, with Danilo and Brennan Johnson getting among the goals. It was a result that helped Forest climb out of the danger zone and ended the club’s run of 11 games without a win.

A trip to Brentford is up next for Forest, who also arrive into the game in a confident mood after an away win at Chelsea. Despite being buoyed by their victory over Brighton, though, pundit Paul Merson does not believe that it will be enough to reverse Forest’s dismal away record this term but still favours the club to stay up.

“Brentford's 2-0 win over Chelsea in midweek didn't come across as shocking. They should be able to get a rather comfortable victory on the weekend against Forest,” Merson told Sportskeeda , predicting a 3-0 defeat for Forest.

“Nottingham Forest have been atrocious away from home. If they can win the rest of their games at the City Ground, they'll be safe. Looking at the fixtures, Everton look most likely to suffer the drop. They might get four points tops from the rest of their games.

“Despite this, Forest will keep a keen eye on the result of Leicester City's game against Everton this weekend as a draw in that one will keep them above the drop zone without needing to win this weekend.”

In the reverse fixture at the City Ground, Forest rescued a point courtesy of a 96th minute own goal from Mathias Jorgensen. Cooper will hope his side can show similar determination on Saturday as Forest look to keep themselves away from the bottom three.
