Paul Merson makes 'perfect' Leeds United point as he delivers his West Ham prediction

Paul Merson reckons Leeds United will be "hungrier" than West Ham United this weekend when the two sides go head to head at the London Stadium.

The Hammers welcome Sam Allardyce's Leeds side to east London, with the two sides separated by six points with two games to play in the season.

West Ham know that a win or a draw will ensure their safety in the Premier League, although they will be safe before then if Everton fail to beat Wolves. On Sunday, the Hammers will be facing a Leeds side currently third from bottom in the top flight and battling to avoid relegation themselves.

But Merson thinks Leeds will benefit from facing the Hammers off the back of their victory against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League on Thursday night.

Indeed, the former Arsenal forward is predicting that Leeds will take advantage of West Ham potentially having one eye on the final and claim all three points with a 2-0 win to boost their chances of avoiding the drop to the Championship.

"This is the perfect time for Leeds United to face West Ham. They have to make this one count," he said in his weekly predictions feature for Sportskeeda.

"The Hammers are likely to rest a lot of their players after their Europa Conference League heroics. Leeds will need to take advantage of it.

"If West Ham win the Conference League title, it'll be absolutely amazing. It'll be an absolutely brilliant season for them despite hovering near the relegation zone for most of it. What a turnaround it will be for David Moyes if they do end up winning a European title!

"However, Leeds United will be hungrier this weekend and that could help them get a massive result."
