Liverpool have still been backed to finish in the Premier League’s top four by Arsenal legend Paul Merson.
The Reds have had an indifferent start to the season, with just nine points from a possible 18 on offer. That form leaves Liverpool in seventh place and six points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have also not had a good start in Europe, either. Wednesday night saw the Reds lose 4-1 to Napoli in their first Champions League Group A fixture.

Merson tipped Liverpool to finish in the top four at the start of the season, and his stance has not changed after the opening six fixtures. The former Arsenal star thinks that the Reds will “turn it around” to secure Champions League football for next season.
“It’s still early doors, but I think the Premier League top four this season will be Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in whatever order,” Merson told Sportskeeda.
“Chelsea will obviously have a thing or two to say, but we’ll have to wait and see how Potter performs at Stamford Bridge. As for Manchester United, I don’t think they’ll make it because they still have a lot of work to do in terms of their squad.
“They’ve won four league games in a row, including victories against Liverpool and Arsenal, but I’m yet to be convinced by them. Arsenal are good and I believe they are in there for the long run, while I’m still backing Liverpool to turn it around in the coming weeks to secure a UEFA Champions League spot.”
