Paul Merson: Gabriel Jesus is a ‘game-changer’ but Arsenal legend urges caution ahead of Chelsea friendly

Gabriel Jesus has already shown the potential to be the “game-changer” at Arsenal, according to Paul Merson.

The former midfielder is impressed with the Brazilian’s start to life with the Gunners having netted three goals in three pre-season games.

“It's still early in pre-season but Gabriel Jesus has been the game-changer already,” Merson wrote in the Daily Star.

“He scores goals. He makes things happen. That's what he's in the team for. I know it's only pre-season but you want him to settle quickly.

“It's a different level of game coming up, against Chelsea this weekend.”

A new midfielder is still needed for Arsenal, Merson believes, and he fears both the Gunners and Chelsea will struggle to perform in the Orlando humidity in their pre-season meeting on Saturday night.

“I'm going to that game,” he continued. “But the heat is so stifling here it could be like a testimonial. I wouldn't expect too much. It won't be like a Premier League games, all blood and thunder.

“So we won't be able to draw too many conclusions. I still think Arsenal need a top, top quality midfield player. That would make a big difference.”
