Paul Merson and Michael Owen agree on what Liverpool will do at Nottingham Forest

Liverpool are favourites for this evening's FA Cup quarter-final clash with Nottingham Forest, but pundits have warned the Championship club have already caused upsets in the earlier stages of the competition.

The Reds are in fine form after they closed the gap to Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table to just one point with a win over Arsenal midweek. They continue to battle it out on all fronts and Jurgen Klopp will be eyeing another trip to Wembley this season.

His side lifted the Carabao Cup trophy last month following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over league rivals Chelsea, but the FA Cup remains the one trophy this team are yet to win.

A selection of pundits have shared their thoughts on the fixture and how the match will play out.

Danny Murphy, Mail on Sunday (Nottingham Forest 0-2 Liverpool)

Ex-Red Danny Murphy expects the Liverpool boss to pick a stronger team than normal, but has warned of the previous upsets Forest have caused in this competition.

"Liverpool will have to be careful not to go the way of Arsenal and Leicester at the City Ground but Jurgen Klopp has built a very strong-minded group," he said. "With the international break next, he may select a stronger team than usual.

"I think they will have the firepower to avoid a shock. Roberto Firmino made the difference at Arsenal on Wednesday and he will be important. Forest will want to fly into Liverpool but Firmino has the touch and awareness to beat any press."

Paul Merson, SportsKeeda (Nottingham Forest 1-3 Liverpool)

Following the win over the Gunners, former Arsenal star Paul Merson says the result at the Emirates proves 'what a good team' Liverpool are.

"Forest are doing really well at the moment, but Liverpool will have miles too much for them," he said. "Arsenal couldn't have played much better against Liverpool in the first half, but they never looked like scoring except for that Odegaard chance that came from a Thiago Alcantara backpass.

"Liverpool, on the other hand, were nowhere close to their best but turned it on in the second half and won 2-0 - that just goes to show what a good team they are. It'll be a great atmosphere at Forest, but I think Liverpool will win this one comfortably."

Mark Lawrenson, BBC Sport (Nottingham Forest 0-1 Liverpool)

Mark Lawrenson has also backed his former club to beat Forest, although he expects it to be a tight game at the City ground.

"Klopp's squad has got him this far in all four major competitions, and I think he will rotate his team again," said.

"That will give Forest more hope, and they do have a clever manager in Steve Cooper plus some very talented players - Djed Spence scored a stunning goal against QPR on Wednesday and I'd be surprised if he's not playing in the Premier League next season.

"It is going to be close, but with Liverpool in this kind of form it is hard to back anyone to beat them at the moment."

Michael Owen, Bet Victor (Nottingham Forest 1-3 Liverpool)

Michael Owen, on the other hand, is predicting a comfortable 3-1 win for Liverpool as they look 'too strong' in their current form.

"It’s great to see Forest in the latter stages, it’s been a great run for them," he said. "They’ve given teams problems at the City Ground, but Liverpool are looking too strong at the moment.

"I can’t think of a more form team in Europe than Liverpool. After that League Cup win, Klopp will be targeting another trip to Wembley. I’m predicting a 3-1 Liverpool win."
