Paul McGrath was more than capable of taking on and beating the strikers he faced in his prime. We'll never know just how he may have coped up against the likes of Erling Haaland today but according to a tweet he sent earlier today, he wouldn't particularly fancy it!
The official UEFA Champions League Twitter account posted a tweet containing an image of Haaland with the question, "you can pick one defender from any era to face Haaland... Who are you picking? Gary Lineker then replied saying "Paul McGrath". He then quote tweeted saying, "No thank you!".
It is of course, impossible to say just how players from different eras compare, but given McGrath was one of the best defenders of his generation it's not impossible to imagine the Irishman causing the Norwegian some considerable problems.
