Paul McGrath has apologised online for losing his cool, saying that "anger got to me".
The Republic of Ireland legend made the apology on Twitter, but did not specify what he was apologising for.
McGrath took to social media to say: "Anger got to me and , to be honest it’s not offer . But it took what little control away from me, l apologies to the relevant people, and wanted to do the same those who are kind enough to read these tweets. Take care . #Respect"
And a number of followers replied to McGrath as they backed the Ireland legend.
One user wrote: "Hi Paul, don't know what you are apologising for and I don't need to know. None of us are perfect, so whatever it is don't let it get to you. Sending you lots of love"
While another said: "Best centre half in England of all time! You don’t apologise at all mate. Legend"
While another added: "True legends are big enough to appologise if needed. Ive got no clue whats it all is about, but im pretty sure the intentions were good anyways. Forever greatful for what you have been for us at Villa"
And another said: "Mr McGrath you’ve been my hero since the age of 10 and 40 in a few months time. Sometimes God he’s allowed to get mad when he’s dealing with idiots. You’ll always be a legend to me. You’ll always be God"
