Sir Paul McCartney's mobile phone number is publicly available on his social media pages, and he has urged fans "text me".
A line in both his Twitter and Instagram bios reads: "Text me: +1(212)313-9547". The number has also been displayed on screens at some of his live performances, according to reports.
Fans of Paul, 81, who grew up in Allerton, have said after sending an initial text they have been signed up for a mailing list with occasional pictures and seasonal greetings.

When the ECHO sent a text to see what would happen, there was no immediate response, however if you call the number the answerphone message features Sir Paul's voice.
It appears messages may only be sent during periods of promotions such as tour dates, as a screenshot from one fan shows a reply that reads: "Hi it's Paul! I'd like to stay in touch with you through this tour and beyond.
"Add yourself to my phone by clicking the link. Cheers!"
The Beatles legend isn't the first celebrity to share his mobile number online, with many other stars using the same marketing tool. Jennifer Lopez, Ashton Kutcher, and Amy Schumer are among those who urge fans to send them an SMS.
