Paul Konchesky sums up his feelings after earning his first West Ham WSL win over Everton

West Ham Women's manager Paul Konchesky has admitted that he is 'over the moon' with his side's performance to earn three points in their opening WSL game against Everton but the former defender expected potentially more problems in their first match.

The Hammers started the season with maximum points after Lisa Evans' poaching instinct to be in the right place at the right time made the Toffees pay for their inability to clear their lines from a corner right before half-time. Overall, the defensive performance to nullify Brian Sorensen's exciting and newly looked side was the most impressive factor for supporters watching on from the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

All of the defence but in particular, Lucy Parker, Risa Shimizu and Hawa Cissoko put in standout performances to help the east Londoners collect maximum points on opening weekend in the battle of the two new managers. Whilst Sorensen went on record to say that his side controlled proceedings and only lost due to a lack of clinical edge in front of goal, Konchesky praised his team for the resilience they showed throughout the proceedings to keep the clean sheet but admitted that the substantial change over the summer worried him coming into this one.

"I'm over the moon", he told The Women's Football Show on the BBC. "I think the goals were fantastic from minute one to the 97th minute.

"They gave their all and we knew today would be tough, we got a whole new set of players, new staff, so to get a win and a clean sheet is fantastic."

Konchesky's side are next in action on Sunday, September 25 when they play hosts to Marc Skinner's dangerous Manchester United side. Kick-off is 15:00 (GMT) and if the Irons show the resilience they did during game week one, anything is possible.
