Paul Hollywood and wife Alexandra in divorce hearing ending 19 years of marriage

Paul Hollywood and wife Alexandra are one step closer to getting divorce - ending 19 years of marriage.

Neither the Great British Bake Off star or his estranged wife were present at the hearing - which granted the couple a decree nisi, which is the first step towards a divorce being finalised.

District Judge Robert Duddridge granted a divorce decree in a hearing at the Central Family Court in London on Friday.

Neither party was at the hearing, which lasted less than a minute.

Judge Duddridge granted a decree nisi.

A marriage does not formally end until a decree absolute has been granted.

The 53-year-old celebrity baker split from the mother of his son, Alexandra, 55, in 2017.

Their case was heard today by a judge at the Central Family Court in London today.

After Paul announced his split from cook Alexandra it emerged that he'd been wining and dining Summer Monteys-Fullam, 24, a barmaid at his local pub.

Alex and Paul first split in 2013, when Paul had an affair with 34-year-old Marcela Valladolid after going to America to front a US version of Bake Off.

He later said publicly that it had been the "biggest mistake" of his life, and Alex took him back.

Talking about her decision, she said: "I stand by that decision. I believed in my marriage, I wanted to make it work."

And Alex says when she became concerned about Paul's relationship with Summer, she knew it was over.

She added: "It was over. I didn't have to make a decision, that was it. The only decisions for me then were about me son, about my future. I mean, that is a lot. Divorce is tough, very tough. You don't expect it, you are in shock, and all of a sudden you are on your own."
