Paul Hanlon delivers Hibs 'few more years left in me' verdict as he hits fresh Easter Road milestone

Paul Hanlon has opened up on his Hibs future and roared: "I think I've got a few more years left in me."

The Hibs legend broke into the top five appearances makers for the club after surpassing Willie Ormand with his 507th appearance in the win over Motherwell. Current Easter Road star and team-mate Lewis Stevenson is slightly ahead with 550 and sits fourth on the overall list with Gordon Smith still leading the way with 636.

It's another landmark for the club captain who is feeling fit and enjoying his football at the moment with Lee Johnson's men flying high in third spot after a fourth consecutive league triumph on Saturday. Hanlon has put down the recent good run of form to consistency in team selection and the hard work on the training ground. He told Edinburgh Evening News: “I like to think I’ve got a few more years left in me in terms of playing every week and contributing to the team.

“That will be my main focus and wherever I end up on these kinds of records – it will be what it is. I need to keep fit and stay in the team. I’m enjoying it just now. I’m feeling fit and we’re winning games. That’s the main thing.”

He continued: "We’ve kept the same sort of team over the last few games and the back four is working well together. “We’ve done a lot of work on the training ground.

"The midfield is helping us too, especially Nohan Kenneh in front of us. He’s doing a great job and it’s kind of all coming together. We’re all understanding each other a bit more. It’s probably given us that base to go and win games.”

On the big part David Marshall has played, he added: “He is definitely right up there with any goalkeeper I’ve played with.

“He seems to have the whole package and you would expect that with the level he has played at, shot-stopper, calming influence. With his feet he is incredible and a great addition to our squad.”
