Paul Feig's highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 noir comedy 'A Simple Favor' is set to open the SXSW Film and TV Festival in Austin, Texas. Titled 'Another Simple Favor,' the film stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively in a plot filled with murder and betrayal as their characters, Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson, embark on a journey to an Italian wedding on Capri.

The festival organizers announced that 'Another Simple Favor' will kick off the event on March 7, promising audiences a twist-filled experience. The vice president of the festival, Claudette Godfrey, expressed excitement about the film, stating that it immediately stood out as the perfect choice to open SXSW.

This is not the first time Feig's work has been featured at SXSW, with previous screenings of 'Bridesmaids' in 2011 and the premiere of 'Spy' in 2015. The premiere of 'Another Simple Favor' marks Blake Lively's return to the big screen since her last film, 'It Ends With Us,' released in the previous year.

However, Lively's return to the spotlight has been marred by legal drama involving her and 'It Ends With Us' director and co-star, Justin Baldoni. Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni and his production company, alleging sexual harassment and attacks on her reputation, while seeking unspecified damages. In response, Baldoni countersued Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, accusing them of defamation and extortion and seeking over $400 million in damages. A trial date has been set for March 2026.

Aside from 'Another Simple Favor,' SXSW also announced the opening night premiere of the upcoming Seth Rogen Hollywood comedy series 'The Studio.' The festival, now in its 32nd year, is scheduled to run from March 7 to March 14, offering a diverse lineup of films and TV shows for attendees to enjoy.
