Paul Danan funeral takes place a week after Hollyoaks star's shock death

Paul Danan’s funeral has taken place - (PA)

Paul Danan’s nearest and dearest said their final farewells at his funeral in Waltham Abbey on Tuesday less than a week after his shock death aged 46.

Boyzone singer Shane Lynch and his Hollyoaks co-star James Redmond were among those to attend.

The former Hollyoaks actor reportedly "slipped and fell" in a luxury apartment near Bristol on January 15.

He died just hours before he was due to appear in court on drug charges.

Danan had also been charged with driving while under the influence of drugs, according to court papers.

His management confirmed his passing in a statement describing him as a “beacon of light”.

It read: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of Paul Danan at just 46 years old.

“Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many.

“His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him.

“During this difficult time, we kindly request respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Since then, friends of the late star have set up a JustGiving page to support his nine-year-old son DeNiro Benjamin.

Currently, they have raised over £6,000 and are aiming to raise £10,000 to "make his son's journey a little bit easier".

Essex-born Danan played the character Sol Patrick in Cheshire-set soap Hollyoaks from 1997 to 2001 and followed this up with several reality shows, including Celebrity Big Brother and Love Island.

Hollywood even came knocking, but things soon took a turn when he ended up working at a phone repair shop.

Last year, Danan – who was open about his battles with drug and alcohol addiction – pointed the finger firmly at reality TV as the reason for his onscreen work drying up.
