Paul Casey boldly predicts reception British LIV Golf rebels will receive in London

Paul Casey has revealed he is expecting to receive an "exceptional reception" from English golf fans when LIV London takes place at Centurion Club next month.

LIV Golf will return to the UK and Centurion for the second time, 13 months on from its first ever event at the St Albans course. It is no secret that the British Isles has been starved of professional golf in recent years, but July is set to be a big month.

LIV will host their 54-hole event at Centurion on July 7, which is followed by the Scottish Open on July 13, before the Open Championship takes place at Hoylake on July 20 to cap off a bumper three weeks.

Of course, LIV Golf has not been everybody's cup of tea since its inception last summer, splitting the opinion of golf fans around the world. Due to the lack of LIV events compared to those out in the US, it is hard to measure how much support the breakaway circuit has in the UK.

One man who is confident the British fans will be out in force at Centurion though is Casey. Per the Harrow Times, the LIV star said: "I’m expecting a phenomenal reception [at LIV London]. With the global schedule we all play, we don’t play as much in the UK as we used to.

“When I started my career, we played half a dozen events a year back home and now it’s one, two or three at most, which is a shame. With Covid and everything else in the last few years, the fans have been starved of action and this will be a treat."

This will be Casey's first LIV event on home soil having missed the circuit opener in 2022 due to making the move after LIV London had kicked off. During the maiden campaign, the 45-year-old played five events and secured three top 10's in this time.

In 2023 things have proven tougher, having finished inside the top half of the leaderboard just once out of his six appearances. Casey then missed LIV's last outing in Washington DC last month due to injury, but is expected to make his return to the course for his homecoming at Centurion.
